Description

Explore a new dimension of communication with this ultra-compact, multifunctional QRP SSB/CW shortwave transceiver. Engineered for simplicity, versatility and efficiency, it combines top-notch DSP with SDR functions. Despite its small size (3888155mm in an aluminum case), it delivers approximately 5W PEP SSB output from a 13.8V supply and supports all modes: USB, LSB, CW, AM, FM.

The GitHub link for the firmware can be accessed at https://github.com/threeme3/QCX-SSB/tree/feature-rx-improved for contributions and experimentations via Github. The standby current is ideally between 80–90mA.

This transceiver features simplified design achieved by adapting EER Class-E driven SSB transmit-stage guaranteeing power-efficiency without the need for hefty heatsinks or balanced linear power amplifiers. Moreover, it carries full HF reception over standardly utilized six-band transmission designs laid out over 80m/40m/20m/17m/15m/10m ranges.

Adding to its feature set is an array of DSP filters (3000 to 50 Hz passband), Automatic Gain Control (AGC), Noise-reduction (NR), Voice-triggered Xmit (VO1X), RX Attenuators (ATT) among others designed to perfect your transmission experiences. It achieves significant suppression in opposite side-band/carrier during both transmit (> -45dBc) and receive (> -50dBc).

The embedded software-based VO1X enables quick Full Break-In or assists in RX/TX switching for operating digital modes without requiring any CAT or PTT interface whilst offering external PTT output control alongside TX-delay abilities.

Notably benefiting from an open-source firmware built with the Arduino IDE; it has multiband support that’s continually tunable through bands spanning anywhere between160m-10m and extending to regions within 20kHz..99MHz albeit with minor performance loss.

The perfection of engineering extends to its receiver stages, offering three independent switchable analog front-end receiver attenuators. It boasts a low Noise floor MDS standing at –135 dBm at 28MHz (200Hz BW) and remarkable Front-end selectivity marked by steep -45dB/decade roll-off +/-2kHz.

In addition, it includes CAT support (TS480 subset), the ability to stream audio, keys, display-text over CAT. It supports CW decoding and a Straight/Iambic-A/B keyer. To top it off it features VFO A/B functioning along with RIT and Split operations paired with I2C-guided relay band-filter switching.

Please note: Although AM and FM functions are included these are bonus features provided without guarantee for perfection. Facilitating outdoor use is its battery-power mode which generally reduces overall power by about one-third. Changes in frequency below 10M leading to normalcy between 3-10W are usual, higher frequencies tend towards decline from about 3-5W between 10M and 30M marking high frequencies potentially lower than 2W.

Kit includes: One fully-loaded QRP SSB/CW shortwave transceiver.
